SURREY – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) confirms that its investigators have been deployed to an incident in Vancouver on June 10, 2014.

According to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), shortly after 11:00 a.m. its officers responded to a report of a shooting in the Yaletown area. An adult male reportedly fled the area and was located by police officers near Science World, at which time an exchange of gunfire took place. The male affected person sustained gunshot injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment. A VPD officer also sustained injuries in the incident.

The IIO was notified immediately and investigators were deployed.

As set by the Chief Civilian Director, the IIO’s goals are to conduct fair, unbiased, timely, thorough and competent investigations and ensure transparency through public reporting.
