Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has deployed investigators to a fatal incident in Nanaimo involving a male.

Initial information provided to the IIO by the Nanaimo RCMP suggests that mid-morning on Tuesday May 8, 2018, officers were responding to reports of a potential car-jacking and had tracked the vehicle to the Departure Bay ferry terminal in Nanaimo.

Attempts were made to engage with the male driver and during the course of that interaction it is believed shots were fired. The male did not survive his injuries.
