For Immediate Release
Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has concluded its investigation into an incident in Abbotsford on the evening of November 27, 2018.
On November 27, 2018, Abbotsford Police reported that at approximately 1:36 p.m., a call was received in relation to a male in distress.
At 2:16 p.m., officers located the male on North Parallel Road, Abbotsford, and due to information in relation to a firearm, police took steps to contain the area. Shortly after dark, officers closed the containment and found the male in medical distress. Emergency Health Services were on hand and provided medical assistance, however the male was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Police Act requires the IIO to investigate incidents where there is serious harm or death as a result of police action. Our investigation has determined that the male’s death did not arise from the actions of police. As a result the investigation is being concluded at this point.
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
