Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of B.C. has concluded an investigation into an incident in Abbotsford.
As detailed in our initial release, on May 21, 2020 at approximately 2:00 p.m., officers responded to a report of a man alleged to have a weapon in a hotel room located in the 2000-block of Clearbrook Road. Following several hours of attempted negotiation, police took action to force entry to the room, in the course of which a less-lethal firearm was discharged and caused the man injury. He was arrested and transported to the hospital for treatment.
The Chief Civilian Director has reviewed the evidence and determined that the harm suffered by the man does not meet the definition of serious harm as defined by the Police Act. As a result, the investigation has been concluded.
