Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is concluding an investigation into an incident in West Kelowna.
As reported in our initial release, RCMP officers spoke to a man with regards to an ongoing investigation on July 16, 2020 who was subsequently reported missing by a family member the following day. The man was found deceased on July 20, 2020.
The police search for the man was extensive.
The Chief Civilian Director has reviewed the evidence and determined that the actions or inactions of police were not responsible for the death of the man.
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
