Case: 2025-059 Incident Date: February 24, 2025 Location: Prince George Detachment: Prince George Agency: RCMP Incident Classification: Serious Harm Case Status: Closed - Without Public Report

Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC has now completed its investigation into a motor vehicle incident that occurred in Prince George on February 24, 2025 (IIO 2025-059).

At around 10:20 p.m., RCMP officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a red Chevrolet pickup truck near 10th Avenue and Irwin Street.

The Chevrolet drove off and was later involved in a collision with another vehicle near 15th Avenue and Highway 97.

The driver of the Chevrolet was arrested at the scene.

BCEHS attended and determined two occupants in the other vehicle had suffered serious injuries who were then taken to the hospital.

The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and commenced an investigation.

The chief civilian director has now reviewed the evidence collected by IIO investigators – including medical evidence, video footage, witness statements and collision reports – and has determined that there no reasonable grounds to believe that an officer may have committed an offence.

The IIO investigation is now concluded, and a public report will be published following conclusion of a related court process.

Background

The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
