INFORMATION BULLETIN
Independent Investigations Office
For Immediate Release
June 24, 2013
SURREY – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) has concluded its investigation into an incident that occurred in Quesnel.
On April 5, 2013, the IIO was notified that an individual had sustained serious injury after an incident involving a member of the RCMP. The IIO asserted jurisdiction and conducted an investigation.
The Chief Civilian Director (CCD) has reviewed the completed investigation and concluded that no officer may have committed an offence. The matter will not be reported to Crown counsel.
Section 38.121 of the Police Act allows the CCD to publicly report his findings and the reasoning behind his decisions. In this case, the CCD, in consultation with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner and the affected person’s family, decided that privacy considerations outweighed the public interest and as such, no public report will be issued.
The IIO will not provide any additional information on this matter.
