For Immediate Release
Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC has concluded an investigation into an incident in Vancouver.
The Vancouver Police Department notified the IIO of an incident that occurred on February 2, 2021 at approximately 3:00 p.m. As part of an ongoing investigation, officers arrested a man with the assistance of a police service dog near Strathcona Park. The man sustained a dog bite injury and was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.
The Chief Civilian Director has reviewed information about the man’s injury and determined that the injury does not meet the definition of serious harm, as defined by the Police Act. The IIO investigation is therefore concluded.
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
