Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) has concluded its investigation into the arrest of a man that occurred in Vancouver on September 30, 2026 (IIO 2026-249).

Around 4:30 a.m., Vancouver Police Department (VPD) officers were called regarding a man reportedly in possession of a weapon who refused to leave a property.

Police located the man on Prince Edward Street south of East 10th Avenue. During the arrest, the man was reportedly uncooperative, and officers used a less-lethal firearm and police dog.

The man was taken to the hospital for assessment and treatment before being transferred to the Vancouver Jail.

The IIO was notified shortly after the incident occurred and commenced an investigation.

The chief civilian director has reviewed the evidence collected by IIO investigators – including police reports, medical records and witness statements – and has determined that the man’s injuries do not meet the threshold of serious harm, as defined by the Police Act.

The IIO investigation is now concluded.
