Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC has now completed its investigation into the arrest of a man in Penticton on November 15, 2024 (IIO 2024-268).

At around 2:30 p.m., members of the RCMP pulled over a commercial vehicle for a traffic violation near the intersection of Government Street and Industrial Avenue.

While police were speaking to the AP, a family member arrived at the location and began filming.

There was interaction and police first arrested the family member followed by the AP a short time later. Both were transported to the RCMP detachment while the commercial vehicle was towed.

The AP suffered an injury while being arrested and a relative notified the IIO on November 20.

The chief civilian director has now reviewed medical evidence collected by IIO investigators and determined that the man’s injuries do not meet the threshold for serious harm, as defined by the Police Act.

The IIO investigation is now concluded.
