Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC has now completed its investigation into an August 17 arrest in Vancouver where one man was injured.
Just after 7:00 p.m. on August 17, 2025, police were attempting to speak to a man at a home near the intersection of W 71 Avenue and Montcalm Street about an alleged assault. The officers were outside, and the man was inside the home until he eventually came out.
When officers moved to arrest the man once he came out of the home, a police service dog was used to take the man into custody.
The man was assessed at a hospital as he had sustained dog bite injuries.
The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it happened, and the IIO began an investigation.
The chief civilian director has reviewed medical evidence collected by IIO investigators and determined that none of the injuries resulting from the arrest meet the threshold for serious harm, as defined by the Police Act.
The IIO investigation is now concluded.
Background
