Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) has concluded its investigation into the arrest of a man that occurred in Revelstoke on August 2, 2026 (IIO 2026-182).
Shortly after 2:30 p.m., police received a report of an unresponsive man seated in the driver’s seat of a white Jeep Cherokee parked off Highway 1 near Albert Canyon, northeast of Revelstoke. The Jeep was displaying Alberta license plates.
Officers with the Revelstoke RCMP located the vehicle and went to speak to the man, who was asleep. The man then attempted to drive away from the scene, but officers arrested him and transported him to police cells.
Later that day, it was observed that the man had suffered an injury. He was examined by paramedics at the police detachment before being taken to a hospital for further examination.
The IIO was notified shortly after the incident occurred and commenced an investigation.
The chief civilian director has reviewed the evidence collected by IIO investigators – including police reports, medical records and photographs – and has determined that the man’s injuries do not meet the threshold of serious harm, as defined by the Police Act.
The IIO investigation is now concluded.
