Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC concludes investigation into the circumstances surrounding a death that occurred in Enderby.
As indicated in the previous release, on August 5, 2021 just after midnight, police responded to a campsite near Enderby following allegations that a man had assaulted two women with a weapon. Independent witnesses corroborate that the man sustained self-inflicted injuries before departing the campsite in a recreational vehicle (RV).
Police located the man at approximately 2:00 a.m. and following a cautious approach which included use of tear gas and a 40mm less-lethal round, at 3:00 a.m. officers found the man to be in medical distress and provided aid. Emergency Health Services, who had been staged nearby, arrived a short time later to provide further medical assistance, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Based on the available evidence, the man’s death was not related to police actions. The IIO investigation is now concluded.
