Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC has now completed its investigation into the arrest of two men by members of the Vancouver Police Department in Richmond on February 22, 2025 (IIO 2025-058).

Around 8:00 p.m., VPD officers arrested two men in the 16700 block of Cambie Road in Richmond, who were alleged to have been involved in recent crimes in the area.

The two men were injured during the incident and were taken to a hospital for treatment.

The IIO was notified shortly after the incident occurred and began an investigation.

The Chief Civilian Director has now reviewed medical evidence collected by IIO investigators and determined that the injuries sustained by the two men do not meet the threshold for serious harm, as defined by the Police Act.

The IIO investigation is now concluded.

Background

The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
