Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC has now completed its investigation into the injury of one man while being arrested in Vancouver (IIO 2024-155).
At about 12:40 a.m. on July 10, 2024, two officers with the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) arrested a man on the southeast corner of the intersection of Water and Abbott streets.
The man sustained an injury to his arm while being arrested and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The Interim Chief Civilian Director has reviewed the evidence – including medical information, video footage, and police reports – and determined that the man’s injury does not meet the threshold for serious harm, as defined by the Police Act.
The IIO investigation is now concluded.
Background
The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
