Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) has now completed its investigation into a motor vehicle incident that occurred in Vancouver on May 15, 2026.

At around 5:30 a.m., officers responded to calls of a dark colored Jeep being driven erratically on the sidewalk, allegedly striking a person riding a motorized scooter and multiple nearby objects in the area of Comox and Bute Street.

The driver of the dark colored Jeep was eventually arrested after being involved in a collision with a police vehicle. The man was taken to a hospital for assessment and treatment.

The IIO was notified later that day and began an investigation.

The chief civilian director has now reviewed the medical evidence collected by IIO investigators and has determined that the man’s injuries do not meet the threshold of serious harm, as defined by the Police Act.

The IIO investigation is now concluded.
