Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC has now completed its investigation into a police-involved shooting incident that occurred earlier this week near Prince George (IIO 2025-130).
At about 7:30 p.m. on May 27, 2025, a man fired shots towards police officers in a rural area near Highway 16 and Upper Fraser Road.
The man was located by police on a forest service road north of Highway 16. During the interaction with police that followed, the man sustained non-life-threatening injuries. He was then taken to a hospital for treatment.
The IIO was notified by police the same day and commenced an investigation.
The chief civilian director has reviewed medical evidence collected by IIO investigators and determined that the man’s injuries do not meet the threshold for serious harm, as defined by the Police Act.
The IIO investigation is now concluded.
Background
The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
