Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) has concluded its investigation into the arrest of a man that occurred in Prince George on August 10, 2026.
Shortly after 3:30 p.m., a man was driving a commercial truck southbound on Highway 97 near Bear Lake when a Prince George RCMP officer conducted a traffic stop. During the interaction that followed, there was a physical confrontation between the officer and the driver, including the deployment of a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW). The man sustained injuries during the arrest.
The IIO was notified about the incident by the affected person the following day and commenced an investigation.
The chief civilian director has reviewed the evidence collected by IIO investigators – including video footage from police body-worn cameras, police and medical records – and has determined that the man’s injuries do not meet the threshold of serious harm, as defined by the Police Act.
This matter has been referred to the RCMP for review and to determine whether any further action is appropriate under the RCMP Act.
The IIO investigation is now concluded.
Background
The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
