Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. deployed investigators to Abbotsford on the evening of November 27, 2018.

On November 27, 2018, Abbotsford Police reported that at approximately 1:36 p.m., a call was received in relation to a male in distress.

At 2:16 p.m., officers located the male on North Parallel Road, Abbotsford, and took steps to contain the area. Officers attempted to make contact with the male, however, they were unsuccessful. A short time later, officers found the male in medical distress and EHS (Emergency Health Services) moved into the scene and pronounced the male was deceased.

As a result of the fatality and the fact that officers were present at the incident, the IIO was notified.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
