Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has deployed to a police-involved incident in Vancouver.
Vancouver Police reported that on July 13, 2019, officers received a report of a person throwing property from the upper floor of a multi-storey residential building on Bidwell Street, Vancouver.
Officers attended and entered the building. Shortly after the person fell from an upper floor to the ground.
The male did not survive his injuries and the coroner is in attendance alongside IIO staff, who are on the scene investigating.
The IIO is asking anyone who saw, heard or may have footage of the incident to contact the IIO witness line at 1-855-446-8477
Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
