IIO Deploys to Motor Vehicle Incident involving West Shore RCMP (2016-099)

UPDATE: The IIO released jurisdiction of this case on July 15, 2016 as the injuries suffered by the occupants of the vehicle did not meet the established threshold of serious harm.

Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office of BC has deployed investigators to a Motor Vehicle Incident involving West Shore RCMP.

According to police, on May 22, 2016 at approximately 12:50 a.m., West Shore RCMP responded to a request for assistance from B.C. Emergency Health Services. Upon arrival at the scene, police report that a vehicle departed the area. Police attempted to stop the vehicle to perform a road check on it and according to police, the vehicle failed to stop. This vehicle was subsequently found to have rolled over causing injuries to two occupants.

The IIO was notified and has deployed investigators to the scene. The initial focus of the IIO investigation will be to determine if there is a connection between the injuries of the affected persons and actions or inactions of police.
