SURREY – The Independent Investigations Office of BC confirms it has been notified of a serious MVI that occurred in Langley at 1:31 pm this afternoon.

According to the RCMP, a marked police vehicle was travelling code 3 (emergency equipment activated) in response to an unrelated complaint. The police vehicle collided with a civilian vehicle near 268th and Fraser Highway in Langley.

Preliminary information is that the police officer sustained injuries as well as several occupants who were in the civilian vehicle. They have been transported to various hospitals for medical treatment.

IIO investigative teams are en route and will be supported by IIO Collision Reconstruction investigators as well as the investigator for Affected Persons.

The road in the area of the crash remains closed. The Langley RCMP remains responsible for investigating the actions of the affected person(s) while the IIO has asserted jurisdiction over the investigation into the actions of the RCMP officer.

Both the Langley RCMP and the IIO will be guided by the MOU that was signed by BC police agencies and the Chief Civilian Director in 2012.

Due to the preliminary stage of the investigations, no further information will be provided at this time.
