Surrey – The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has deployed investigators to an officer-involved shooting in Grand Forks involving a male.

Initial information provided to the IIO by the RCMP suggests that just before 3:30 p.m. officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop after responding to reports of an erratic driver. Attempts were made to engage with the male, who then reportedly struck police vehicles.

During this interaction, shots were fired by police and the male was transported to the hospital with critical injuries.

Any potential witnesses of this incident are asked to call the IIO at 1-855-446-8477.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
