Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of B.C. is investigating an early-morning police-involved shooting in Vancouver that left one man dead.

Just before 7:00 am today, Vancouver Police were alerted to an ongoing incident at the intersection of Hastings Street and Princess Avenue.

According to Vancouver Police, a man at the scene was acting erratically and posing a threat to public safety. The incident resulted in the man being shot by officers.

The man was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He has since died.

The IIO is investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident. Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact the IIO witness line at 1-855-446-8477.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
