Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Kamloops in relation to the death of one man.
At approximately 5:00 pm on June 28, 2022, a civilian noticed some people who appeared to be unconscious at the North Shore bus loop. He reported his observations to the RCMP.
Approximately two hours later, Emergency Health Services requested Kamloops RCMP’s assistance for a possible sudden death at the bus loop.
The IIO has begun an investigation to determine what role, if any, police actions or inactions played in the man’s death.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
