Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating a Saturday night incident at Uptown Mall in Saanich that left one man seriously injured.

Just before 11:00 pm on November 26, Saanich Police received a report of a shoplifter at Walmart. According to police, the suspect ran to an upper mall parking lot and, shortly thereafter, fell from a ledge outside a guardrail, landing approximately two-to-three storeys below and suffering serious injuries. He was transported to hospital by ambulance.

The IIO has begun an investigation to determine what role, if any, police actions or inactions played in the man’s fall.
