Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an early-morning shooting in East Vancouver that has left an 18-year-old man dead.

At approximately 2:15 am today, August 5, 2023, Vancouver Police received a report of the sound of gunfire in Clinton Park, near Grant and Penticton Streets.

Officers located a young man in the park. Guns were fired, and he was shot by police. He was transported to hospital, where he died.

The IIO is investigating to confirm the details of the incident and to determine what role police played in the man’s death.
