IIO Investigators Deployed to Burnaby

The Independent Investigations Office has been deployed to a fatal officer-involved shooting in Burnaby.

According to police, on September 18, 2015 at approximately 7 am, police responded to a call for shots fired at a residence in the 3800 block of Frances St.

Multiple police agencies responded to the call. According to police, attempts to negotiate with the subject of the complaint failed. Police entered the home, located a male and shots were fired. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The IIO was notified at 8:38 am and investigators were deployed immediately to the scene.

Investigators will be conducting standard tasks including obtaining physical evidence from the scene; interviewing any civilian witnesses; designating and interviewing officers; and completing the next of kin notification.

This is the seventh officer-involved shooting in British Columbia that is under the investigation by the IIO since the start of this fiscal year on April 1, 2015.

The BC Coroners Service is responsible for releasing information about the deceased. IHIT is responsible for any concurrent investigations.
