Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating a motor vehicle incident in Abbotsford.
Information provided by the Abbotsford Police Department indicates that at approximately 12:10 p.m. on February 23, 2022, Abbotsford police attempted to stop a black SUV travelling on Highway 1 westbound. It is reported that the driver failed to stop and that police disengaged.
At about 12:20 p.m., the SUV was observed on the side of Highway 1 and reportedly fled eastbound. A short time later, the SUV was involved in a collision with another eastbound vehicle east of the Mount Lehman Road exit on Highway 1.
The drivers of both vehicles sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries during the collision. There were no other occupants in either vehicle.
The IIO has commenced an investigation to determine what role, if any, police actions or inactions played in the injuries.
