Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is investigating a motor vehicle collision involving a police vehicle in Abbotsford.

Information provided by the Abbotsford Police Department states that at about 4:05 p.m. today (February 20, 2025), a police vehicle engaged in an unrelated investigation was involved in a collision with a civilian vehicle, a GMC Envoy, near the intersection of King and Gladwin roads.

The driver and sole occupant of the Envoy sustained injuries in the collision and was airlifted to a hospital for treatment. Both officers in the police vehicle were also taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and initial investigative steps will seek to determine the extent of the driver’s injuries and the events surrounding the collision.

The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
