Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating a motor vehicle incident in Campbell River that resulted in the death of one woman.
Information provided by the RCMP states that at about 5:30 a.m. on July 31, 2023, police received a call regarding a grey Subaru Outback that was allegedly being driven erratically northbound on the Island Highway near Perkins Road.
Just before 6:00 a.m., police responded to a report of a single vehicle collision involving the grey Subaru Outback just north of the 6400-block of Island Highway. The Outback had been travelling southbound when it left the road, and the female driver and sole occupant was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after the collision occurred. Initial investigative steps will seek to confirm what role, if any, police actions or inactions may have played in the death.
