Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating a motor vehicle incident in Surrey where two men sustained injuries.

Information from the RCMP states that at approximately 1:00 a.m. on July 9, 2022, police responded to a report of three men leaving on motorcycles from a business in the Surrey area. It was reported that the men had consumed some alcoholic beverages. A responding officer observed two motorcycles matching the provided description travelling northbound on 188 Street and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The motorcyclists did not stop and continued to drive away. It is reported that the officer ceased the attempted stop.

A few minutes later, a different officer came across a collision in the 6400-block of Fraser Highway involving two motorcyclists which are believed to be the same two motorcyclists involved in the attempted stop a short time earlier.

The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and has commenced an investigation to determine what role, if any, police actions or inactions may have played in the collision.
