Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating a motor vehicle incident in Surrey that resulted in one man sustaining injuries.

Information provided by the RCMP states that at about 8:00 a.m. on June 18, 2023, police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle, a green Hyundai Elantra, in the 100 Avenue parking lot of Green Timbers Urban Forest. There were two people, a man and a woman, in the vehicle.

It is reported that the Hyundai left as police approached and drove westbound on 100 Avenue. The Hyundai was subsequently involved in a collision at the intersection of 100 Avenue and 140 Street. The male driver of the Hyundai reportedly attempted to leave the scene but was taken into custody shortly thereafter and transported to a hospital where he was found to have sustained injuries.

The female passenger of the Hyundai and the occupants of the other involved vehicles are not reported to be seriously injured.

The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and has commenced an investigation. Initial investigative steps will seek to confirm the details of the events leading up to the collision, the collision itself, and how and when the man’s injuries occurred.
