Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating a motor vehicle incident in West Vancouver.

Information provided by the BC Highway Patrol indicates that shortly after noon on July 18, 2021, members of the Fraser Coast Integrated Road Safety Unit were conducting speed checks in the Cypress Bowl area eastbound on Highway 1 when a collision occurred between a Ford F150 and a Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Officers provided medical assistance to the female motorcyclist until Emergency Health Services arrived to transport her to the hospital. She sustained serious injuries in the collision.

The IIO has commenced an investigation to determine if police actions or inactions may have played a role in the incident.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
