IIO is Investigating a Police-Involved Fatality In Surrey (2025-032)

Information provided by the Surrey Police Service states that shortly after 9 p.m., officers were called to execute an arrest warrant on a person living at an address in the 13900 block of 100 Avenue.
When police arrived, they located the affected person (AP), who was the subject of the warrant and attempted to arrest them. It is reported the AP was in possession of a weapon.
There then was an interaction, during which police fired weapons, including a firearm, and the AP suffered a life-threatening injury.
EHS was called and provided aid, but the AP later died at the scene.
The IIO was notified after the incident the same day and has commenced an investigation. Initial investigative steps will confirm the details of the interaction between the person and officers, and determine if police actions were necessary, reasonable, and proportionate in the circumstances.
