Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating a police-involved shooting incident in Surrey that resulted in the death of one man.
Information provided by the RCMP states that in the evening on April 5, 2023, police attended a motel in the 13900-block of 104 Avenue. While there regarding an unrelated matter, the officers reportedly were advised of an alleged robbery that had just occurred and observed two men leaving the area.
It is reported that the officers followed and during the arrest of one of the men, there was an interaction and shots were fired.
The man was shot, and he was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.
The IIO has commenced an investigation, and initial investigative steps will seek to confirm the details of what occurred during the arrest, and who fired shots during the interaction.
