Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating a police-involved shooting incident that resulted in serious injuries to one man.

Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department states that at about 8:45 p.m. on July 16, 2022, police responded to a reported break-in at a building near the intersection of Gore Avenue and Railway Street.

It is reported that an officer attempted to stop a vehicle leaving that area, but the driver did not stop. An interaction occurred near the intersection of East 2nd Avenue and Commercial Street, and shots were fired. The IIO investigation will determine who fired shots during the incident but it is reported that the man had a weapon.

The driver of the vehicle sustained serious gunshot-related injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and deployed investigators to the scene.
