Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating the injuries of one man in Vancouver.

Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department states that at about 8:00 a.m. on July 30, 2022, police driving in the area of East Hastings and Columbia observed a man waving a weapon.

When the officers arrived, an interaction occurred, and shots were fired by police.

The man was transported to the hospital for treatment of gunshot-related injuries.

The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and deployed investigators to the scene to commence an investigation.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
