Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating a police-involved shooting incident in Creston where one person has died.

Information provided by the RCMP states that at about 3:35 a.m. on December 14, 2022, an officer was conducting a vehicle check of a black pickup truck in the driveway of a residence in the 3400-block of View Road when it is reported that an interaction occurred, and the officer discharged their weapon. The truck then left the scene.

While the RCMP has released additional details, no other information concerning the interaction between police and the truck driver has been independently verified at the time of writing. The particulars of what occurred in the driveway are the subject of the IIO investigation.

The truck and male driver, a youth, were found a short time later near Highway 3A and Mather Road. Police and Emergency Health Services provided medical assistance, but the youth was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

IIO investigators have been deployed to the area to commence an investigation.
