IIO is Investigating a Police-Involved Shooting Incident in Penticton (2025-074)

Information provided by the RCMP states that shortly after 4 p.m., police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of Green Mountain Road and Sumac Court. A man inside the vehicle was reportedly in possession of a weapon.
The man then ran from the vehicle, which was followed by an interaction with police. During the interaction, one officer discharged their firearm, and the man suffered gunshot injuries.
He was then taken to the hospital.
The IIO was notified shortly after the incident occurred and has started an investigation.
Investigative steps will seek to confirm what happened leading up to and during the man’s interaction with police and whether any action taken may have been necessary, reasonable, and proportionate during the circumstances.
