Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating the death of one man following a police-involved shooting north of Walhachin near Kamloops.

Information provided by the RCMP states that at about 5:20 p.m. on August 14, 2022, police responded to a report alleging a man was confining a woman and child.

Members of the Emergency Response Team were deployed, and the man’s vehicle was located on Deadman Vidette Road, about 14 kilometres from the Trans Canada Highway.

At about 3:00 a.m. on August 15, 2022, at least one officer discharged their firearm. It is reported that the man was in possession of a weapon. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later.

The woman was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries sustained prior to the police interaction, and the child was uninjured.

The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and has deployed investigators to the scene to commence an investigation.
