Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating the death of one man and the serious injury of a woman following a police-involved shooting near Keremeos.
Information provided by the RCMP states that at about 7:45 a.m. on September 13, 2022, there was an interaction between police and one man and one woman in the 4100-block of Highway 3.
During the interaction, shots were fired by police. Both the man and woman sustained gunshot-related injuries.
The woman was transported to the hospital with a life-threatening injury, and the man was pronounced deceased.
The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and has deployed investigators to the scene to commence an investigation.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
