IIO Is Investigating A Police-Involved Shooting Near Midway (2024-276)
Case: 2024-276 Incident Date: November 26, 2024 Detachment: Midway Location: Midway Agency: RCMP Incident Classification: Serious Harm Case Status: Open - Investigation in ProgressSurrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is investigating an incident near Midway that occurred on the afternoon of November 26, 2024 and resulted in one member of the RCMP being injured.
Information provided by the RCMP states that police were in the process of stopping a suspected stolen vehicle on a rural service road off Highway 33 near Midway.
During the incident, one officer discharged their firearm striking another officer.
The injured officer was taken to the hospital with a gunshot injury.
The IIO was notified the same day and has now commenced an investigation.
Initial investigative steps will seek to confirm the extent of the officer’s injuries and whether or not they meet the threshold of serious harm as defined in Part 11 of the Police Act.
