Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Sechelt.

Information provided by the RCMP indicates that on September 21, 2021 at approximately 10:20 p.m., police responded to a report regarding erratic driving and located a woman believed to the subject of the complaint. The woman was arrested and transported to the RCMP detachment cells.

While at the detachment, an interaction occurred, and the woman sustained a non-life-threatening injury. Medical assistance was provided, and Emergency Health Services were called to take the woman to a local hospital for treatment.

The IIO was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and has commenced an investigation.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
