IIO is Investigating an Arrest And Serious Injury in Chilliwack (2024-270)

Information provided by police states that shortly after 2:30 a.m., officers responded to a call about an intoxicated woman at a bar on Gaetz Street.
Upon arrival, officers found the woman and attempted to speak with her. There was an interaction and officers arrested her, resulting in a serious injury.
She was then taken by ambulance to a hospital where it was determined she will require surgery.
The IIO was notified the same day and has commenced an investigation.
Initial investigative steps will seek to confirm the details of the incident and if any force used by police was necessary, reasonable, and proportionate in the circumstances.
