Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Burnaby.
Information provided by the RCMP indicates that on July 19, 2020 at approximately 1:30 a.m., officers responded to a call regarding an incident involving a man at a residence in the 6900-block of Elwell Street. When officers arrived, the man fled the residence.
A police service dog was used to locate and arrest the man. During the interaction with the police dog, the man sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Background
The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
