Surrey, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating the injuries of one man in an incident in Burnaby.

Information provided by the Vancouver Police Department and Burnaby RCMP states that at about 3:00 p.m. on July 28, 2022, police conducting an investigation into an alleged stolen vehicle attempted to take a man into custody in the 3700-block of Still Creek Road.

Two police service dogs were used to assist in the arrest, and the man sustained dog-bite related injuries that are believed to be serious but not life-threatening.

The IIO was notified of the incident on July 29, 2022, and deployed investigators to the scene to commence an investigation.

Background

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
