Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Kamloops where one woman sustained serious injuries.
Information provided by the RCMP states that at about 11:35 p.m. on February 4, 2023, police responded to a reported disturbance at a residence on McGill Road.
When police arrived, they located a woman who was reported to have been involved in the disturbance nearby. The woman was arrested and lodged in Kamloops RCMP detachment cells.
In the morning on February 5, the woman complained of an injury. She was released and transported to a local hospital where it was determined that she had suffered a serious injury.
The IIO has commenced an investigation, and initial investigative steps will seek to confirm when the injury occurred and what role, if any, police may have played in that injury.
