Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Kitimat that resulted in one woman sustaining a serious injury.

Information provided by the RCMP states that at about 2:35 a.m. on March 26, 2023, police responded to a reported disturbance at a residence in the 1300-block of Tweedsmuir Avenue. One woman was arrested at the residence, and it is reported she sustained a serious but not life-threatening injury to an extremity while being taken into custody.

The IIO has commenced an investigation, and initial investigative steps will seek to confirm the details of what occurred during the arrest.

Background
