Surrey, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Langley where one man has sustained serious injury.

Information provided by the RCMP states that at about 1:30 p.m. on November 28, 2022, police received a complaint regarding a man in the 27000-block of Fraser Highway who was alleged to have committed theft and caused a disturbance.

It is reported that the man sustained an injury while being taken into custody at the nearby Aldergrove Community Police Office.

Emergency Health Services attended, and the man was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Background

The IIO is the Independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
